With the time, the advancements in the various fields is increasing day by day. Mainly in the medical field there are so many researches that are being done and are carried out as medical field directly involves the lives of all the living beings so it is one of the, most field of study. All these researches are being successful due to our some of the most talented researchers. One of the researcher about whom I am going to talk about is Dr Devi Charan Shetty. His work towards the medical industry is commendable and today I am going to tell you all about one of his research work.
One of the research work done by the Dr Shetty that is very mush valuable for all of us is Study on the Reproducibility of grading system in Oral Epithelial Dysplasia. Dr DC Shetty with his fellow Adesh Manchanada did research work in this field. The objective of the study was to assess the inter as well as intra observer variability in the grading oral epithelial dysplasia (OED) by making use of the Smith and Pindborg grading System. This is related to the cancer which has become one of the hazardous disease for all of us. Also for every diagnostically active pathologists grading of the dysplasia is demanded almost on the regular basis. The evaluation of the grading of the oral epithelial dysplasia is one of the greatest problems as it is mainly based on the subjective impression.
Research Outcomes on OED by Dr DC Shetty
The oral epithelial dysplastic lesion is also known as the pre cancer lesion and mostly occurs in the head and neck pathology. As stated by the Dr DC Shetty the concept of the stepwise development of the cancer in oral mucosa is very well established. Also presence of the epithelial dysplasis is very important in predicting the malignant development than clinical characteristics. Also according to the study of both the researchers a collaborating reference centre was also established by the WHO in 1967 with the objective to define as well as characterize those type of leisons which should be considered as the oral precancer and also to determine the relative risk of becoming the malignant. WHO published the “histopathological typing of the cancer and precancer of oral mucosa in the year 1997”.
Also the organisation divided the epithelial dysplasia as the Mild, Moderate and Severe.
Also according to the Dr Shetty, due to discrepancy of epithelial maturation patterns in assessing diagnosis of epithelial dysplasia is subjective. The right grading of the OED gives a big challenge to all the pathologist. Basically if we talk about the grading then it is the attempt to impose the discrete the categorization. So any of the grading effort is thus by definition artificial. The pathologists need to provide the information that is useful to the clinicians and also this is done by creating the discrete sub entities in the biological continuum. Till now the research work done by everyone, it is founded that unless the clear criteria are decided upon, it will always remain the debatable subject. So this is one of the most important of Dr Devicharan Shetty for the nation and for the medical industry and still more research is being carried out by him and his team.
